What does the brain do and why is it so important to keep it healthy?



The brain is the center of the nervous system, playing a key role in-memory processing and storage. It controls how our body perceives its surroundings by allowing us to think, act, feel and react.

When we are born our brain has no knowledge or experience but it adapts quickly as new information is introduced into our daily lives through sensory perception. This process helps explain why babies will stare at an object for hours because there is so much they don’t know about their surrounding environment! As time progresses this data becomes organized allowing them to respond with greater accuracy based on past experiences such as reaching out when hungry or looking away from bright lights that hurt their eyesight. The brain's structure and how we can use its various parts for different purposes



The brain is divided into three parts: the cerebellum, the brain stem, and the cerebral cortex. The cerebellum is responsible for balance and coordination while the brainstem controls basic life functions such as breathing and heart rate. The cerebral cortex is where all of our higher-level thinking takes place including memory processing, language skills, and sensory perception.

Each hemisphere (left or right) of the brain specializes in different tasks:

-The left side processes verbal information while the right side handles nonverbal activities such as music and art.

-The front part of the brain is responsible for logical thinking, analysis, and judgment while the back half controls emotions and creativity.

For example, if you want to remember the order of planets in our solar system, you might use this phrase: My very eager mother just served us nine pizzas (Sun-Mercury-Venus-Earth-Mars, Jupiter-Saturn-Uranus, Neptune).

Mnemonics is an effective brain exercise tool because they use both sides of the brain by associating the information with images (creative) and words (verbal). This helps us remember things better over time due to increased brain activity.

Another great brain exercise is visualization. This is when you create a mental image of what you want to remember. For example, if you are trying to learn the French word for “apple” (pomme), imagine an apple in your mind with the word “pomme” written on it in French.

Repetition is also key when it comes to memory improvement. The more times you practice recalling information, the better chance you have of remembering it for long-term storage. So, if you are trying to remember someone's name, keep repeating it aloud or write it down several times.
